Tag your blog posts and get more exposure for your site
This tip is specifically for all the bloggers out there. If you have a web blog, like WordPress, installed on your website, then you will want to be sure to tag each of your blog posts with relevant key words.
Although at first blush it may appear that this effort is just a waste of time, in the long run, you will be developing category and key words strength for your blog site. Each time you use a key word or phrases that corresponds to your chosen meta tags, it adds to the reliability of your web content. Search engines check this, and often your page rank can be improved by tagging appropriately.
These tags are used for numerous purposes. Not only will the tags be embedded into your blog page, but they are also indexed by search engines, and are used by social media sites to determine where your page “fits” within pre-defined categories.
For those who are not familiar with the term social media you don’t have to look far to see examples of it. On my site, you’ll notice a list of all my social media pages, and a search box that allows you to search content I have in all of them at once. I also have bookmarking links (called “Save and Subscribe”) that allow you to post content from my blog onto other social media pages like FaceBook or MySpace. You can subscribe to my feed using dozens of various RSS subscription sites, and you can even e-mail the content or simply bookmark the page to one of numerous social bookmarking sites, like BookmarkIt, or Google bookmarks.
Social media is, in short, “word of mouth” advertising for the 21st century. It allows users to share content they find online with a small group of friends, or millions of other users.
The bottom line – you don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to reach these crowds, and to have your information filed correctly, you’ll want to be sure you add your blog tags appropriately.
For WordPress users, be sure to also download and install the All-in-One SEO WordPress plugin. This is not the only SEO-type plugin available for WordPress users, but I believe it is the best one out there right now.
This plugin allows you to add meta tags, description information, customize title tags and other SEO functions that would otherwise require PHP programming knowledge to accomplish. It is simple to install, simple and use, and worth every minute of effort.
