Online marketing is an essential component of web business success. It is used to attract new and potential customers, provide an image of professionalism and expertise for your brand, company or ideas, and to display trust and compel potential customers to do business with you.

Whether your are a beginner or just looking for more ways to market your business online,  I’ve compiled a list of Top 10 Online Marketing Tips that can help you with your marketing efforts. These tips are not all inclusive, but they are what I consider to be primary efforts for marketing your business online.

1. A simple, professional looking web design is paramount. If your site looks like a first grader put it together, why would anyone want to take your products or services seriously? There are many ways to get a professional-looking site online. Pay someone to do a professional job, or use one of the many tools available to do it yourself.

2. You must work on honing your SEO skills, or have someone optimize your site for you. SEO is not an end-all-be-all, however. In other words, just because you optimize your site, don’t expect thousands of customers to come flocking; your site needs a holistic marketing strategy.

3. Online marketing efforts – you need to start pushing your site to browsers online; you can do this through pay-per-click campaigns, setting up affiliate links so others can sell for you, or in other ways that start moving your products and services through cyberspace

4. Email marketing is an effective marketing tool, but don’t abuse it. Setting up a newsletter, or monthly or weekly informational mailing lists is a good way to keep your name, and your products, in the front of potential customer’s minds

5. Request a Free consultation or analysis from a marketing coach or consultant. Of course, I will if you asked nice ;-) but don’t be afraid to get more than one opinion. Consultants differ on techniques and strategies. Find one that works within your needs.

6. Start publishing articles to article directories online. There are literally thousands of these, and most all are free. Not all of these lists are worth the time and effort, however, so take time to research them, and find one’s that specialize in your business niche.

7. Publish online press releases. This is just as significant as “real life” press release generation, and the quality of the press release sites online is improving all the time.

8. Just like a real business, you need to run sales, and specials to focus and highlight items or services. You can advertise these on your website, but also provide coupons through local directories; many of these have paid options but some basic functionality is free.

9. Provide several ways for customers to contact you. Email, phone, skype, instant messenger; any potentially useful contact tool cannot be ignored. These tools will also be based on your potential client demographic, so fit the tools with your marketing needs.

10. Interact, interact, interact! I cannot stress enough how important it is to interact, or at least have the capacity to interact, with your consumers. They not only want this, in today’s online market they expect it!
