That bridge to nowhere? has a $25 m. road, to nowhere
Last night on CNN I was amazed to learn that despite the infamous “bridge to nowhere” never being built, the road that leads to the bridge WAS built. In fact, it was built with taxpayer dollars and a $25 million price tag, on Sarah Palin’s watch.
Representatives for Palin didn’t have much to say about the project. When asked why a $25 million dollar road was built to go to a bridge that never materialized the response was that it was in anticipation of the bridge and contracts were already signed and the earmark had already been given.
In other words, the government gave us this money, we’d better spend it, even if it means wasting millions of dollars in taxpayer money for a road that literally goes nowhere and is never used!!
But the best part was saved for the end of the story. Both Barack Obama and Joe Biden had voted down the earmark spending for the bridge to nowhere, wanting to divert the funds to Katrina victims.
So, Miss Palin, I hope you are satisified with your campaign and your short service to the citizens of Alaska and the United States. Considering you are running on a “we get rid of waste” platform, your $25 million dollar road that leads to nowhere at the edge of Alaska, no doubt just a stone’s throw from Russia, would have helped a lot of Katrina victims with food, clothing and shelter.
Is this really the American way? In the wake of what could be the worst financial crisis this country has seen in decades, for a politician to even walk down the street with their head up knowing they so blatantly threw American taxpayer money down the sewer is simply unconscionable and a mockery of everything that is truly right and good about this nation. Too sentimental? Maybe it is about time someone was.
